Skullcandy Partners with Bose to Elevate Crusher 1080 ANC Headphones
The Skullcandy Crusher 1080 ANC launches in New York with Bose’s noise-cancellation and spatial audio technology, targeting mid-range market share following the success of its 2025 earbuds.

Skullcandy has officially launched the Crusher 1080 ANC wireless headphones in New York City, a move that underscores the company’s ongoing strategy to improve its audio engineering reputation through a partnership with Bose. Priced at $280, the new flagship headphones integrate Bose’s active noise-cancellation technology, a spatial audio profile, and a six-microphone array designed to enhance call quality. The release follows the 2025 launch of the Skullcandy Method 360 ANC earbuds, which also utilised Bose technology and reportedly captured 20 per cent of the mid-range earbud market.
The Crusher 1080 ANC retains Skullcandy’s proprietary bass-vibration driver, known as Crusher technology, which allows users to adjust physical bass intensity via a thumb wheel on the ear cup. However, the company has implemented significant engineering adjustments to address historical criticisms regarding audio clarity. According to Skullcandy CEO Brian Garofalow, engineers worked closely with Bose to decouple the bass effect from the rest of the acoustic tuning profile. This separation ensures that mid and high frequencies remain sharp even when the bass is maximised, preventing the audio from becoming muddy at high volumes.
Garofalow acknowledged that while Skullcandy has historically excelled at community building and lifestyle branding, it has faced challenges in product engineering. The company, which is owned by private equity firm Mill Road Capital, has focused on honing its technical capabilities in recent years. The integration of Bose’s sound expertise is central to this effort, with the Sound by Bose programme adding noise cancellation that functions effectively even with the bass cranked to maximum levels.
The headphones are equipped with Bluetooth 5.3, Auracast support, multipoint pairing, and an auto-pause feature that detects when the headphones are removed. Battery life is rated at 60 hours with active noise cancellation turned off, and 50 hours with it enabled. A rapid charge function provides four hours of playback from a 10-minute charge. The device also features a customisable equaliser via the companion app, allowing users to tailor the audio experience to their preferences.
Skullcandy aims to differentiate itself in a crowded marketplace by maintaining a competitive price point significantly lower than premium offerings from Sony, Apple, and Bose. The company claims the Method 360 ANC earbuds, released in 2025 at an introductory price of $100, have successfully captured 20 per cent of the $75 to $100 earbud segment, based on a third-party market report commissioned by Skullcandy. Garofalow confirmed that the company is developing future-facing technologies but declined to disclose specifics, stating only that "very cool stuff" is forthcoming. Tony Hawk remains a brand ambassador for the company as it continues to pivot towards higher-fidelity audio products.
