MediaTek unveils Dimensity 9600 Pro on TSMC’s 2nm process
The flagship smartphone processor adds on-device AI, gaming upgrades and support for 4K 120fps video capture.
MediaTek has announced the Dimensity 9600 Pro, its flagship smartphone processor and first chip built using Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co’s 2nm N2P process.
The company says the chip’s 2+3+3 All Big Core CPU design increases single-core speeds by 17 per cent and multi-core performance by 15 per cent compared with the previous generation. MediaTek also claims a 61 per cent reduction in multi-core power consumption.
The processor includes a dual-NPU architecture combining GPU and AI computing, alongside an Agentic AI Engine designed to support on-device artificial intelligence. MediaTek said it delivers 27 per cent higher peak gaming performance, 18 per cent faster ray tracing and 24 per cent lower power consumption at peak speeds.
Devices using the chip will support up to 4K 120fps video capture. Oppo, Xiaomi, Samsung, Motorola and Realme were named among the smartphone brands expected to use the processor, although the source does not specify when those devices will reach the market.
Engadget reported that Qualcomm is expected to adopt TSMC’s N2P process for a forthcoming Snapdragon processor. MediaTek’s performance and efficiency claims were not independently verified in the source. Apple has also said its newly announced iPhone 18 models use TSMC’s 2nm process.
