Samsung isn't sure why some Galaxy S26 Ultra screens are turning red
Internal probe launched after users report pink discolouration on flagship smartphone screens

Samsung is conducting an internal investigation into reports of a reddish discolouration affecting the displays of some Galaxy S26 Ultra units. The company confirmed the matter to Korean media outlet Newsway on Monday, stating it is examining the issue to determine the cause, although it has not yet identified the source of the defect.

Online discussions have highlighted images of devices developing a pink rectangle in the centre of the screens. Reports of the issue date back to March, shortly after the device’s release, with more recent allegations suggesting the red tint appeared gradually after several months of use or was observed on demo models in retail stores. It remains unclear how widespread the defect is across the user base.

Engadget, which reviewed a Galaxy S26 Ultra unit in the spring, has not observed any colour changes in its test device. The publication noted it had reached out to Samsung for additional comment but had not received a direct response at the time of reporting.

Speculation regarding the cause has focused on the device’s Privacy Display feature, which is designed to block over-the-shoulder snooping. This feature is unique to the S26 Ultra in Samsung’s current smartphone lineup and has previously been linked to user complaints regarding health symptoms, including eye strain, headaches, nausea, and dizziness.

Alternative theories suggest the discolouration could be a form of screen burn-in or the result of other environmental factors. Samsung has not ruled out any specific cause, and the company indicated that further details would only be available once its internal examination is complete.
