Kelce finds sanctuary in Chiefs camp amid wedding whirlwind and new business ventures
Travis Kelce describes the solitude of training camp as a refuge following his high-profile marriage to Taylor Swift, while also addressing his rivalry with teammate Patrick Mahomes over baseball investments.
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has characterised the team’s training camp as a “sanctuary” following his recent marriage to pop star Taylor Swift, citing the routine and solitude of the pre-season environment as a welcome respite from the public scrutiny surrounding his union.
Speaking to reporters for the first time since the ceremony, Kelce described the wedding at Madison Square Garden as the “best night of my life.” The private event, held in the cavernous New York venue, featured actor Adam Sandler as the officiant and musical performances by Stevie Nicks, with a guest list comprising numerous figures from the entertainment and sports industries.
The ceremony drew a high-profile attendance, including actors Bradley Cooper, Zoë Kravitz, Hugh Grant and Ethan Hawke, models Gigi Hadid and Karlie Kloss, comedian Chris Rock, director Steven Spielberg, and former NFL quarterback Tom Brady. Chiefs quarterback and Kelce’s best friend, Patrick Mahomes, was also in attendance.
Kelce credited the owners of Madison Square Garden for accommodating the private event, noting that the venue held personal significance for the couple. He revealed that Swift had fulfilled his childhood dream of attending a playoff game at the arena in June, watching the New York Knicks during the NBA Finals while he was occupied with minicamp duties.
Beyond the wedding, Kelce confirmed his acquisition of a minority stake in the Cleveland Guardians, joining owner David Blitzer in the Major League Baseball franchise. The investment establishes a sporting rivalry with Mahomes, who holds a stake in the Kansas City Royals, the Guardians’ divisional rivals.
On the field, the focus remains on the Chiefs’ upcoming campaign, particularly given Mahomes’ recovery from a season-ending knee injury that required surgery in December. Kelce, who turns 37 in October, emphasised his determination to maintain a high level of performance alongside the recovering quarterback.
“I still got a lot of love for this game,” Kelce said, asserting his belief that he can continue to compete effectively in what he described as a young man’s game. He highlighted the drive to Missouri Western State University and the isolation of living in college dorms during camp as key factors in his sense of refuge.
The relationship between Kelce and Swift began after he attempted to gift her a friendship ring at a concert, leading to an invitation to watch him play at Arrowhead Stadium. Their courtship has since been widely covered in the media, culminating in the star-studded nuptials that Kelce now views as a closed chapter, with his attention firmly fixed on the football season ahead.
