Washington Commanders wide receiver Stefon Diggs has established an immediate connection with quarterback Jayden Daniels during joint training camp practices with the Miami Dolphins, according to reports from CBS Sports. The partnership has been highlighted by precise route running and reliable hands, including a touchdown catch in an 11-on-11 drill that underscored the growing synergy between the two players.
Diggs, who recently signed with the Commanders following a productive season with the New England Patriots, has been observed making significant impacts in one-on-one drills and team sessions. His ability to find soft spots in zone coverage and execute sharp breaks has provided Daniels with a consistent target, addressing a strategic need for the franchise.
The Commanders struggled to identify consistent downfield receiving options opposite Terry McLaurin during the previous season. With McLaurin appearing in just 10 games last year and the team’s next leading receiver being rookie Jaylin Lane with only 16 catches, the acquisition of a proven veteran was viewed as a necessary move to stabilise the passing attack.
Daniels praised Diggs’ spatial awareness and leadership, noting that the veteran’s experience with various defensive coverages translates well to the Commanders’ system. “He’s a dawg. He goes out and makes plays. He brings energy, he’s a leader, so I’m super happy to have Stefon in that room,” Daniels said after practice, emphasising the broader impact Diggs has on the team’s culture.
Diggs’ arrival comes after a renaissance season in New England, where he recorded 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns despite playing only 55 per cent of the Patriots’ offensive snaps. His performance, which included a fifth-best mark in the NFL for yards per route run, suggests he remains a potent weapon capable of influencing games despite not being at the peak of his physical powers.
Safety Jeremy Reaves noted the tactical advantage Diggs provides, describing the pairing of him and McLaurin as “two premiums on the field.” Reaves highlighted that the presence of another high-calibre receiver forces opponents to adjust their game plans, creating additional opportunities for the Commanders’ offence to exploit defensive weaknesses.
The Commanders’ offence, which began training camp slowly, appears to have found a natural fit with the Washington-area native.
