Fountain 0 bets on AI film amid Nolan’s $250m Odyssey
Executive chairman Tom Rogers positions Odysseus: The Fall as a comparative tool for audiences, contrasting solo AI production with traditional cinema.

Film studio Fountain 0 has announced the upcoming digital release of Odysseus: The Fall, an AI-generated reimagining of Homer’s epic. Directed by Ash Koosha, the project utilises video generation tools including Kling and Google’s Nano Banana to produce a feature-length adaptation of The Odyssey. The film is scheduled for digital rental and purchase later this summer, positioning its launch directly against the theatrical release of Christopher Nolan’s high-budget adaptation of the same source material.
The production operates on a significantly reduced capital base compared to traditional studio blockbusters. Fountain 0’s executive chairman, Tom Rogers, confirmed that the project’s budget sits in the mid-five figures, a fraction of the $250 million allocated to Nolan’s version, which is projected to earn between $80 million and $100 million in its opening days. Koosha, who previously directed Fountain 0’s AI-generated docudrama Dreams of Violets for $2,000, handled the writing, directing, and editing duties. The lead character, Odysseus, is modelled on Koosha’s own likeness, with the director providing the voice for the entire cast.
Rogers stated that the film serves a dual purpose: demonstrating the current capabilities of AI filmmaking and acting as a promotional instrument for the company’s production workflow. The studio aims to target audiences interested in artificial intelligence rather than traditional cinema-goers. Rogers suggested the release would act as a catalyst, encouraging viewers to compare the top tier of AI-generated content with what he described as the highest state of human filmmaking achievement, a title he expects Nolan’s film to claim.
The announcement highlights a growing trend among AI startups to leverage major cultural moments for visibility. Similar strategies have been employed by ElevenLabs with an AI-narrated audiobook of The Odyssey and Particle6, which is promoting its AI avatar, Tilly Norwood, ahead of a planned feature-length release. These projects often rely on the "uncanny stiffness" and over-glossy aesthetic associated with current generative video tools to generate buzz, contrasting the solo, automated workflow of the creators with the collaborative, human-driven nature of traditional film production.
While Fountain 0 emphasises the efficiency of its AI-forward model, the studio acknowledges the distinct appeal of human-crafted art. Rogers noted that the project is designed to show what the "top state of the art" in AI filmmaking looks like today, rather than attempting to replicate the emotional resonance or visual grandeur of Nolan’s theatrical release. The strategy reflects a broader industry attempt by AI firms to establish relevance in the entertainment sector through high-profile stunts and comparative marketing.
