At least two people were killed in a fire in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi neighbourhood during an overnight Russian missile attack, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

Klitschko said two people were rescued as firefighters extinguished the blaze. Two bodies were later found, he said.

Russia’s Defence Ministry described the operation as a “massive strike” on targets in Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions. It said Russian forces also hit port facilities and vessels in the Odesa region, which it said were being used in the interests of Ukraine’s armed forces.

The ministry’s account of the targets was not independently confirmed in the supplied report. The full extent of damage and whether there were further casualties were not established.

Kyiv has faced repeated Russian air attacks in recent weeks, including strikes on energy and transport infrastructure, according to the report.
