USC suspends linebacker after late hit on Oregon quarterback
Desman Stephens II will miss one game after his hit on Dante Moore, who was taken to hospital and reportedly diagnosed with a concussion.
USC coach Lincoln Riley has suspended linebacker Desman Stephens II for one game after his late hit on Oregon quarterback Dante Moore, Fox Sports reported. Riley described Stephens’ actions as unacceptable and said he would learn from the incident.
Moore was taken from the field on a stretcher and transported to hospital. CBS Sports, as cited by Fox Sports, reported that he was diagnosed with a concussion.
Stephens was ejected after the play. His sideline reaction drew criticism, and he later apologised, calling his response after Moore was injured “completely inappropriate and inexcusable”.
ESPN reported that Stephens is expected to miss USC’s 3 October game against Washington.
