Trimble to Join Louisville Amidst Eligibility Ruling Uncertainty

Former North Carolina guard Seth Trimble has committed to play for Louisville for the 2026-27 season, according to a report by ESPN. The move positions Trimble as another marquee addition to the Cardinals’ roster, contingent upon the stability of a recent legal ruling regarding college eligibility.
The transfer becomes feasible following a Colorado district court decision that granted Class of 2022 high school graduates a fifth season of college eligibility. This judicial outcome opened the pathway for Trimble, who entered the transfer portal in the spring, to extend his collegiate career beyond the standard four-year limit.
Trimble indicated that a roster logjam at North Carolina was the primary driver for his decision to seek a new team. Despite citing the Tar Heels as his home and expressing appreciation for his time there, the guard sought an opportunity to play elsewhere after averaging 14.0 points and 3.0 assists per game in his final season.
Over four seasons, Trimble scored 971 career points in 126 games for North Carolina. He also participated in five Las Vegas Summer League games for the Washington Wizards, where he averaged 10.8 points and 4.0 rebounds.
The commitment assumes the Colorado ruling remains intact, as the NCAA is expected to challenge the decision. If upheld, Trimble will join a high-profile incoming class at Louisville that includes ESPN-ranked transfers Flory Bidunga, Jackson Shelstad, Alvaro Folgueiras, and Karter Knox.
Louisville currently sits 12th in ESPN’s Way-Too-Early Top 25 rankings. The addition of Trimble, provided the legal landscape permits, adds significant depth to a program already viewed as a top-tier contender for the upcoming season.
