Tawanchai PK Saenchai Vacates ONE Featherweight Muay Thai Title to Elevate Carrillo
The 134-win veteran reports being 70 to 80 percent recovered from surgery sustained in December 2025, with a return targeted for early next year.
Thai Muay Thai fighter Tawanchai PK Saenchai has voluntarily vacated his ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Title, a decision that elevates interim champion Nico “King of the North” Carrillo to the status of undisputed divisional champion. The move was announced on Tuesday, July 21, clearing the path for the division to progress while Tawanchai completes his rehabilitation from an injury sustained during his bout against Liu Mengyang in December 2025.
The decision to relinquish the belt was made on Tawanchai’s own terms, driven by a desire to allow the organisation to move forward and provide opportunities for other ranked contenders. The Thai fighter, a megastar from PK Saenchai Muaythaigym, stated that he did not want to hold the division back while pursuing personal recovery goals. He thanked owner Sia Khaek, ONE Championship, and fans for their continued support during his tenure.
Tawanchai, who has recorded 134 career wins, provided his first proper interview since the injury required surgery. He reported that he is currently 70 to 80 percent recovered and expects to return to competition in early next year, subject to medical clearance. The fighter emphasised that the choice was not made under external pressure but rather after careful reflection on the needs of the sport and the aspirations of his peers.
“I thought this through carefully and realized this is the right path so the organization can keep moving forward,” Tawanchai said. “I want to see other fighters get their shot, and I want the fans to stay happy watching the new generation compete.” He expressed happiness for the interim champion and top contenders to chase their dreams, noting that he anticipates crossing paths with them in the ring again.
Upon his return, Tawanchai confirmed he will remain focused on Muay Thai, although he retains ambitions to compete for a kickboxing title. The fighter plans to approach his comeback without extra pressure, aiming to deliver strong performances as he seeks to reclaim the gold he has temporarily set aside.
