Bryony Field named for first England start against Canada
The England hooker will start in the WXV Global Series rematch after scoring her first Test try against Australia.
Bryony Field will make her first international start for England when the Red Roses face Canada at Exeter’s Sandy Park on Saturday in the WXV Global Series.
Field earned her promotion after scoring her first Test try as a replacement in England’s 48-15 win over Australia last weekend. She will start alongside Maud Muir and Hannah Botterman in the front row.
The selection comes amid several absences at hooker. Amy Cokayne is injured, Connie Powell is recovering from surgery and Lark Atkin-Davies has recently become a mother, according to Yahoo Sports.
England have also restored Jess Breach and Alex Matthews, while Lucy Packer and Zoe Harrison form a new half-back pairing. Fourteen members of the squad were part of England’s matchday 23 for the previous World Cup final, when Canada were beaten.
England have won 34 of their 38 meetings with Canada, including the past 14. Canada’s last victory came in 2016. England will next face New Zealand at Twickenham’s Allianz Stadium on 26 September, before October Tests in North America.
