Russian strike damages Kyiv bridge during Merz’s unplanned visit

A bridge in Kyiv was damaged in a strike attributed to Russia during German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s unplanned visit to the Ukrainian capital, France 24 reported on 4 October.

Merz said the visit was intended to show Germany’s support for Ukraine. The report did not establish when the strike occurred in relation to his visit.

Video showed a large hole in the roadway. France 24 correspondent Gulliver Cragg said traffic had resumed, though slowly.

The report said experts described Kyiv’s bridges as extremely solid and difficult to destroy, even with ballistic missiles. It did not identify the damaged bridge or specify the extent of its structural damage.
