RPI opens Liberty League campaign with 33–7 win over Hobart
Kayden White ran for 192 yards and two touchdowns as RPI ended a two-game losing streak in Troy.
RPI beat Hobart 33–7 in Troy on Saturday, opening its Liberty League season with a win after consecutive losses to Utica and SUNY Brockport. The result moved the Engineers to 2–2 overall and 1–0 in league play.
Running back Kayden White carried 35 times for a career-high 192 yards and scored twice. Quarterback Justin McCormack added a touchdown through the air and one on the ground, in his first college start since the 2023 season finale.
McCormack threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to tight end Josh Young in the first quarter. His six-yard scoring run in the third quarter put RPI ahead 19–0, after linebacker P.J. Poknis returned an interception 77 yards to set up the drive.
RPI coach Ralph Isernia said McCormack earned the start through his practice performance. Starting quarterback Micah Balzarini was unavailable with an injury.
McCormack and White were freshman-year roommates in 2023. McCormack returned to RPI’s football team this season after time away from the programme.
