Yelich named Brewers’ first official captain
Christian Yelich accepted the role after seeking Hall of Famer Robin Yount’s approval, according to manager Pat Murphy.
The Milwaukee Brewers have named Christian Yelich the first officially designated captain in franchise history. The club said he would wear the captain’s “C” on his jersey from Saturday, 26 September.
Yelich sought the approval of Hall of Famer Robin Yount before accepting, manager Pat Murphy said, according to Yahoo Sports. Yount had previously been regarded as a symbolic captain, but Milwaukee had not formally appointed one.
Yelich has played for the Brewers since 2018 and won the National League Most Valuable Player award in his first season with the club. He is a three-time All-Star.
The appointment formalises a role the club says does not change Yelich’s standing within the team. Milwaukee has also secured the NL Central title and a playoff berth.
