New signings join preseason camp as club prepares for Champions League return

AS Roma has commenced its preseason training camp, marking the beginning of the club’s centenary season and its return to the UEFA Champions League after a seven-year absence. The squad is preparing for a demanding summer under the guidance of manager Gian Piero Gasperini, who is now bolstered by the arrival of two new signings.

Striker Rasmus Malen and defender Evan Ndicka have joined the club’s training camp following the completion of their medical examinations. Both players are returning from the FIFA World Cup, with their recent international experiences providing the backdrop to their integration into the Giallorossi squad.

Ndicka was selected for the Ivory Coast national team but remained on the bench for all four matches during the tournament. The defender sustained an injury during a derby match in late May, which prevented him from featuring on the pitch despite his inclusion in the squad.

Malen’s return from the World Cup has been marked by limited involvement. The forward made four appearances for the Netherlands without scoring, while his relationship with coach Ronald Koeman appeared strained. The source indicates that Koeman preferred alternative striker Brobbey, resulting in Malen being moved from a centre-forward role to a winger position from the second match onwards.

Following their medical assessments, both players are expected to be available for the club’s upcoming test match against Trastevere. The fixture serves as the immediate next step for Roma as it finalises preparations for its historic centenary campaign.
