Rodman faces clash if Shelton reaches US Open final
A one-hour gap between Washington Spirit’s match and the US Open final could leave Trinity Rodman facing a difficult cross-city schedule.
Ben Shelton’s quarter-final victory over Carlos Alcaraz has created a potential scheduling conflict for Washington Spirit footballer Trinity Rodman.
Rodman’s team is scheduled to play in Washington at 1pm EDT on Sunday. The US Open final in New York is scheduled for 2pm the same day, leaving only an hour between the two events in different cities.
The conflict will arise only if Shelton defeats fellow American Frances Tiafoe in the semi-final. A victory would send Shelton into his first Grand Slam final, according to the report by Yahoo Sports.
No plan has been confirmed for how Rodman might manage the clash. Yahoo Sports reported that Shelton and Rodman performed his trademark phone-call celebration gesture together after his win over Alcaraz.
Shelton’s quarter-final victory ended Alcaraz’s reported 18-match Grand Slam winning streak. The match concluded at 3.33am local time, which ESPN reportedly described as the latest finish in US Open history.
