Padres slight betting favourites for Cubs rematch
DraftKings odds cited by Fox Sports put San Diego narrowly ahead, despite Chicago’s 5–1 edge in their regular-season series.
The San Diego Padres opened as narrow betting favourites to face the Chicago Cubs in the National League wild-card series, a rematch of last year’s matchup. Fox Sports reported on 28 September that DraftKings listed San Diego at -120 and Chicago at +100.
The odds are a snapshot of market pricing, not a forecast of the result. The best-of-three series was scheduled to begin on 29 September at Petco Park, according to Fox Sports.
Chicago won five of the teams’ six regular-season games. The Cubs also beat the Padres 2–1 in last year’s wild-card round, which was played at Wrigley Field.
Fox Sports reported that San Diego had the best record in Major League Baseball since 24 July and had won eight of its previous 10 games. It described Chicago’s offence as one of the league’s most dangerous, while identifying the Cubs’ bullpen as a weakness.
