Littler and Van Gerwen out in World Grand Prix opening round
Luke Woodhouse beat defending champion Luke Littler 2-1 in Leicester, while Ryan Joyce came from a set down to eliminate six-time champion Michael van Gerwen.
Defending champion Luke Littler and six-time winner Michael van Gerwen were both eliminated on the opening night of the World Grand Prix in Leicester, according to Sky Sports.
Luke Woodhouse recovered after losing the first set to beat Littler 2-1, winning the next two. Woodhouse will meet Nathan Aspinall in the second round.
Ryan Joyce also came from a set behind, defeating Van Gerwen and ending his bid for a seventh title. Sky Sports reported it was Van Gerwen’s third consecutive first-round exit at the tournament.
Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton progressed. Price lost only one leg against Sebastian Bialecki, while Clayton beat Krzysztof Ratajski.
