NFL preseason injuries tracker: Latest updates on Breece Hall and Jeremiyah Love
Injuries across multiple franchises highlight the physical toll of Week 1 as teams navigate the early stages of the 2026 campaign.

The conclusion of NFL preseason Week 1 has left a trail of significant injuries across the league, underscoring the brutal nature of the early-season grind. According to an injury tracker published by CBS Sports on 17 August, multiple franchises have been forced to manage recovery timelines before the regular season even begins. The attrition includes season-ending setbacks for key rookies and notable absences for established players, raising immediate questions about roster depth ahead of the 13 September opener.

The most severe outcome emerged from the Arizona Cardinals, where top draft picks have been compromised. Chase Bisontis, selected 34th overall, tore his medial collateral ligament during the preseason opener. The Texas A&M product, who had demonstrated versatility by playing snaps at both guard and centre, will miss his entire rookie season. This loss is particularly acute given his standing as one of the top interior linemen in the 2026 draft class.

Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur initially suggested that rookie running back Jeremiyah Love could return from a high ankle sprain sustained during an explosive debut. Love had rushed for 58 yards and added 14 receiving yards before the injury occurred. However, LaFleur later confirmed that the No. 3 overall pick would not practice that week or play in Week 2. High ankle sprains are known to linger, casting uncertainty over Love’s availability for the start of the regular season.

In New York, Jets running back Breece Hall exited a game on 17 August after going down untouched following a catch. Trainers were seen examining his upper right leg, prompting reports of a possible groin injury. Despite the visual concern, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn downplayed the severity of the incident, telling reporters he did not view it as a significant issue. The team will monitor Hall’s status as they prepare for the next phase of preseason play.

Other notable injuries reported in the tracker include Washington Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota, who sprained his MCL and is expected to miss the remainder of the preseason. Minnesota Vikings defensive lineman Jamal Adams suffered a season-ending knee injury, while Houston Texans quarterback Graham Mertz tore his anterior cruciate ligament. The cumulative effect of these setbacks highlights the competitive pressure on teams to maintain health as they vie for playoff positioning.
