Netflix, Sega announce three game adaptations including Crazy Taxi film
Netflix is developing a Crazy Taxi film, a Sonic animated series and a live-action Stranger Than Heaven film, with no release dates announced.
Netflix and Sega have announced three adaptations of Sega game properties: a Crazy Taxi film, an animated Sonic series and a live-action film based on Stranger Than Heaven.
The Crazy Taxi film is expected to be released first, although Netflix has not announced a debut date. Dan Gregor and Doug Mand are attached to write the adaptation, with Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara producing.
Crazy Taxi debuted in arcades in 1999 and became known for chaotic driving, comedic energy and a punk-rock aesthetic. The franchise’s latest game, Crazy Taxi: World Tour, is scheduled for release in 2027.
The new Sonic series is aimed at an upper pre-school audience and is being developed by Carlos Stevens and Toru Nakahara. Netflix already has three seasons of the animated Sonic Prime.
The third project is a live-action film based on Stranger Than Heaven, an upcoming game from RGG Studio, the developer of the Like a Dragon/Yakuza series. Set in early 20th-century Japan, the game follows a foreigner’s rise from poverty to feared yakuza and entertainment tycoon.
Further details about the adaptations, including their casts, plots and production timetables, remain undisclosed, according to The Verge.
