Googlebook laptop pre-orders set to open on 21 September
Google’s higher-end laptops will run an Android-based version of ChromeOS and include source-described Gemini Intelligence features.
Google is scheduled to open pre-orders for its new Googlebook laptops on 21 September at 9am ET, according to Engadget. The company has also listed the date on the Googlebook website.
The higher-end laptops will use a version of ChromeOS based on Android, with Gemini Intelligence described as central to the operating system. Google announced the Googlebook brand in May but has released limited official detail since then.
Reported features include Magic Pointer, which is activated by moving the cursor over an item on screen and provides contextual suggestions for possible actions. Users will also be able to generate custom widgets.
Googlebook laptops are expected to integrate closely with Android phones and feature a “glowbar” on the lid. Planned manufacturers include Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo.
Google has not provided pricing, detailed specifications, availability or shipping dates in the source material. It is also unclear whether every reported feature will be available across all models.
