Mets secure 4-0 victory over Brewers behind Robert home run and defensive solidity

Robert, who went hitless in four at-bats with three strikeouts in Monday’s opener, acknowledged the difficulty of regaining his timing after nearly three months out of action. He stated he was working to find his rhythm at the plate, noting that while he has hit balls of similar distance throughout his seven-year career, the immediate focus was on re-establishing consistency. Through 26 games, Robert holds a batting slash line of .213/.308/.340 with an OPS of .648.

The Mets’ outfield unit, comprising Robert in centre, Carson Benge in right, and A.J. Ewing in left, executed critical defensive plays that supported starter Zac Thornton. Thornton retired 18 batters, with nine outs recorded directly by the outfielders. Ewing, making his MLB career start, made a diving catch in the sixth inning to end a threat with two runners on, a play Green praised for its value in neutralising hard-hit balls.

Closer Devin Williams pitched a scoreless ninth inning to seal the victory, marking his first appearance in Milwaukee as an opposing player since being traded from the Brewers to the Yankees. Williams, who recorded a 1.83 ERA and saved 68 games in 241 appearances for Milwaukee over six seasons, described the experience of sitting in the opposing bullpen as unusual but effective. The Mets are currently showcasing Robert ahead of the August 3 trade deadline.
