The Miami Marlins extended their winning streak to four games with an 8-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night, improving their home record to 38-24. The result marks the team’s best 62-game start at home since 2003, a period that culminated in their second World Series title.
Griffin Conine and Heriberto Hernández provided the offensive firepower for Miami, each hitting home runs during the contest. Conine reached base five times, including a double that helped break a tie in the third inning. Hernández added his 17th home run of the season in the sixth inning, extending the Marlins’ lead to six runs.
Janson Junk (6-7) earned the win by pitching six solid innings, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk. He was supported by relief pitchers Tyler Zuber, Calvin Faucher, and Victor Vodnik, who each pitched a scoreless inning to preserve the margin.
The victory keeps Miami in the hunt for the final National League wild card spot, with the team trailing the Philadelphia Phillies and Arizona Diamondbacks by 1.5 games. Conversely, the Pirates have struggled since the trade deadline, posting a 1-7 record in that span.
Pittsburgh’s starting pitcher Carmen Mlodzinski (6-5) was charged with four runs on five hits in his outing. The teams are scheduled to meet again on Thursday, with RHP Braxton Ashcraft starting for Pittsburgh against RHP Tyler Phillips for Miami.
