LAFC extends unbeaten run with dominant 4-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City
Denis Bouanga and Son Heung-min lead the charge as Los Angeles FC maintains its perfect form since May, leaving Sporting Kansas City at the bottom of the standings.
Los Angeles FC secured its fourth consecutive victory on Saturday night, defeating Sporting Kansas City 4-0 to maintain its position at the summit of the Major League Soccer Western Conference. The result leaves the club level on points with the Vancouver Whitecaps and San Jose Earthquakes, though both rivals retain games in hand. The loss keeps Sporting Kansas City at the base of the conference standings.
The match was defined by a swift and efficient first half, which saw LAFC establish a 3-0 lead before the interval. Son Heung-min opened the scoring in the fifth minute, capitalising on a lead pass from Mark Delgado to fire home his third goal of the season. This strike ended a run of 13 matches without a goal for the South Korean captain, who had previously led the league in assists since joining the club.
Denis Bouanga doubled the advantage in the 37th minute, controlling a long pass from Mathieu Choinière and finishing past the defence. The French forward’s performance has been instrumental in LAFC’s current surge, bringing his season tally to 10 goals in 17 matches. He added his second goal of the night in the 85th minute, following a transition play initiated by Ryan Porteous and assisted by Tyler Boyd.
David Martínez completed the first-half scoring in injury time, converting a counterattack set up by Bouanga to record his sixth goal of the season. LAFC has not lost a match since 17 May, outscoring its last three opponents by a combined score of 10-1. The club’s defensive stability was highlighted by goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who recorded his 10th clean sheet of the season, leading the league in that category.
Sporting Kansas City struggled to generate meaningful offence throughout the contest, registering their first shot on target only in the 77th minute. The result underscores the disparity in form between the two sides, with LAFC continuing its dominant run while Sporting Kansas City remains winless at the foot of the table. Both clubs face crucial fixtures on Saturday, with LAFC travelling to Vancouver and Sporting Kansas City hosting the Houston Dynamo.
