Si Woo Kim has secured his place in the FedEx Cup finale for only the third time in his career, cementing a fourth-place ranking in the standings following a regular season he describes as the best of his professional life. The South Korean golfer has demonstrated marked improvement in his performance metrics, recording 11 top-10 finishes and five podium results throughout the 2026 PGA Tour campaign. This level of consistency has positioned him as a key contender heading into the BMW Championship and the subsequent Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club.
Despite the statistical improvements, Kim has not yet secured a victory in 2026, extending a winless streak that dates back to the 2023 Sony Open. The four-time PGA Tour winner acknowledged the frustration of missing the winner’s circle but emphasised the value of his current form over sporadic success. He noted that his ability to remain in contention weekly, even when not playing at his peak, has reduced the stress associated with frequent missed cuts.
Kim’s improved precision and strategic adjustments have allowed him to maintain a top-25 position even during subpar rounds. He highlighted that minor tactical fixes, such as course strategy adjustments, have contributed significantly to his reliability on the course. This steadiness contrasts with earlier periods in his career, where high-ceiling performances were often offset by inconsistent results.
Beyond the official tournament results, Kim has identified a personal hurdle in his rivalry with world number one Scottie Scheffler. The two golfers share membership at Royal Oaks, a club in Dallas, Texas, where Kim joined after initially requesting membership from Scheffler. Although they have played together for several months, Kim admitted he has yet to defeat his compatriot on the home course, having tied twice but never winning a match.
Kim described Scheffler as “unbeatable” in their private matches, citing the American’s exceptional putting and a lowest round of 64. While Kim joked about requesting handicaps to level the playing field, he maintained that he would not accept strokes even if it meant losing money. This personal rivalry adds a layer of context to their professional competition, including Scheffler’s eight-stroke victory over Kim at the St. Jude Championship, the opening event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
