Jets expose flaws in Titans’ fresh start with 23–10 win
New York controlled Tennessee’s season opener from start to finish, raising immediate questions about the Titans’ new coaching structure, roster and rebrand.
The New York Jets defeated the Tennessee Titans 23–10 in a wire-to-wire victory that disrupted Tennessee’s attempt to begin a new era with authority. The Titans entered the opener with a new-look coaching staff, a rebrand linked to the franchise’s Oilers history and several defensive additions.
The Jets finished with 367 total yards, including 142 rushing yards from Breece Hall and Braelon Allen combined. Geno Smith was not sacked, while New York’s sustained ground game exposed weaknesses in a Tennessee defence expected to be a foundation of the team’s rebuild.
Titans quarterback Cam Ward completed 19 of 32 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown. Tennessee’s offence produced 195 total yards, leaving the team unable to match the Jets’ control of the game or generate much momentum at Nissan Stadium.
The result has prompted criticism of Tennessee’s coaching staff, roster, defence, offence and rebrand. Head coach Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Robert Saleh were among the central figures in the club’s reset, while the defensive front had been strengthened with players including Jermaine Johnson II, Solomon Thomas, John Franklin-Myers, Jordan Elliott and first-round pick Keldric Faulk.
CBS Sports described the loss as one of the Titans’ most embarrassing and reported that it was the Jets’ first wire-to-wire victory and largest win since 2024. The assessment remains an early verdict on a season that has only begun, but the opening performance left Tennessee with immediate questions about Ward’s development, the offence’s direction and whether the defensive investment is producing the intended results.
