Eagles hold off Commanders 24-22 after late two-point stop
Philadelphia survives Washington’s late challenge as Dallas Goedert scores twice and Jayden Daniels finishes with two touchdown passes.
The Philadelphia Eagles opened the 2026 NFL season with a 24-22 home victory over the Washington Commanders, holding on after a late Washington push in Philadelphia.
Moro Ojomo stopped a two-point conversion attempt with 1:01 remaining to preserve the Eagles’ lead. Jalen Hurts reportedly passed for 203 yards and three touchdowns, while Dallas Goedert caught four passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns.
Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels completed 18 of 34 passes for 164 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, but was sacked once. He completed six of 16 attempts for 43 yards in the first half.
Rookie receiver Antonio Williams provided one of Washington’s key contributions, catching all four of his targets for 64 yards and a touchdown, including a 33-yard reception. Terry McLaurin had two receptions for 14 yards.
The Commanders recorded three sacks and 10 tackles for loss, compared with Philadelphia’s two tackles for loss. However, Washington conceded passing plays of 64, 43, 42, 41 and 22 yards, allowing the Eagles to turn defensive pressure into a narrow win.
Kicker Drew Stevens made a 55-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead before later missing a kick and having an extra-point attempt blocked. Yahoo Sports also reported that Laremy Tunsil was inactive for Washington and Jonathan Greenard was inactive for Philadelphia.
