Jeremy Reaves emotional as Tress Way flags likely final Commanders season
Washington punter Tress Way says he is “pretty sure” the 2026 season will be his last, prompting an emotional response from teammate Jeremy Reaves.
Washington Commanders safety Jeremy Reaves became emotional after punter Tress Way said the 2026 NFL season was likely to be his last.
Way, who has been Washington’s punter since 2014, said he was “pretty sure” the season would be his final campaign while reflecting on the memories and Pro Bowl experiences he would carry with him.
Reaves told Yahoo Sports that he initially thought Way was joking. He described the news as a “gut punch” and said Way was his brother, adding that their families had become closely connected.
The pair have been teammates since September 2018. Reaves said Way had been present for major moments in his life and had watched his children grow up.
Both players were named among Washington’s five captains for the season, alongside Terry McLaurin, Jayden Daniels and Frankie Luvu. The appointments came as the Commanders prepared for their Week 1 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Reaves and Way also shared an emotional moment in 2022, when Way was present as Reaves learned he had been selected for the Pro Bowl.
