James cites Maxey, Brown and Embiid in choosing Philadelphia

LeBron James has outlined three reasons for choosing the Philadelphia 76ers: his relationship with Tyrese Maxey, the team’s acquisition of Jaylen Brown and his hope of helping Joel Embiid win an NBA championship.

James discussed the decision on his Mind the Game podcast with Steve Nash, according to CBS Sports. He said Maxey was among the first to contact him after he decided not to return to the Los Angeles Lakers, and described their relationship as extending beyond basketball.

James also praised Brown’s approach to the game and said the trade that brought him to Philadelphia was unexpected. The 76ers added both players during the off-season, the CBS Sports report said.

Embiid was a central part of James’s explanation. He said he wanted to try to help the centre win his first championship, and hoped to offer a different perspective on the daily preparation required for a deep playoff run.

James’s comments describe his intentions; they do not establish what effect his guidance may have or whether Philadelphia will contend for a title. CBS Sports reported that he had also weighed returning to Cleveland or Miami.
