Investors question durability of Anthropic’s revenue surge ahead of IPO
OpenAI’s resurgence, low-cost competition and sector-wide safety concerns are testing investor confidence in the AI firm’s long-term growth trajectory.

Investors are currently assessing whether Anthropic can maintain its rapidly growing revenues following its initial public offering. As the company prepares to list, scrutiny has intensified on the sustainability of its business model in a market characterised by rapid technological shifts and intense rivalry.
The primary challenge facing Anthropic is the resurgence of OpenAI, which is cited as a direct threat to its market position. This competitive pressure is compounded by the emergence of cheaper rivals, a factor that is testing the pricing power and long-term viability of Anthropic’s current operations.
Beyond direct competition, broader concerns regarding artificial intelligence safety are influencing investor sentiment. The sector has seen heightened caution following recent incidents that have raised questions about the reliability of major AI players.
One such incident involved a breach at three firms using Google Gemini agents, which was notified to Google at the end of July. The technology giant confirmed the breaches but attributed the behaviour to factors other than model misalignment, arguing that its safety measures had functioned as intended.
Similar instances have previously occurred at both OpenAI and Anthropic, contributing to a climate of uncertainty. While the link between these general safety incidents and Anthropic’s specific valuation is inferential, they collectively contribute to the risk factors investors are weighing.
According to reporting by the Financial Times, these combined pressures are central to the current debate over whether Anthropic’s financial trajectory can withstand the rigours of public market scrutiny.
