Markets

Raffaele Zagari, a director of Star Bulk Carriers Corp., purchased 60,000 shares of the company’s common stock for approximately $1.7 million on 15 September 2026. The transaction, disclosed via an SEC Form 4 filing, was executed at a weighted average price of $28.27 per share.

The acquisition occurred as part of a parallel public offering in Greece, coinciding with the company’s dual listing on Euronext Athens. Zagari, who has served on the board since 2018, is a shipping industry veteran with 25 years of experience.

The purchase increased Zagari’s direct holdings by 36%, bringing his total beneficial ownership across direct and indirect accounts to approximately 2.0 million shares. The filing indicates that Zagari maintains 100% of the economic interest and investment control over the entities involved in his indirect holdings, including Augustea Med Ltd. and two other corporations.

Star Bulk Carriers operates a fleet of 136 dry bulk carrier vessels and generated trailing twelve-month revenue of $1.2 billion, with net income of $287.2 million. As of the transaction date, the company had delivered a 61% one-year total return.

The purchase comes at a time when the Iran war has disrupted the shipping business and sent rates rising. Star Bulk Carriers is noted as one of the few shippers permitted to deliver grain and other foodstuffs to Iran, a factor that may contribute to the pricing leverage currently enjoyed by the company.

The stock closed at $31.21 on 16 September 2026, a figure higher than the weighted average purchase price paid by Zagari in the recent transaction.
