International team sweeps opening foursomes matches at Presidents Cup

Corey Conners and Nick Taylor edged Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns 1 up. After the Americans squared the match on the 10th, Conners put the Internationals ahead with a birdie on the 12th. Taylor then hit a 9-iron to about a foot on the 18th to secure par.
Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im defeated Russell Henley and Jacob Bridgeman 3 and 2. Matsuyama’s birdie on the 12th restored a two-hole lead, and the pair closed out the match on the 16th.
Ryan Fox and Min Woo Lee beat Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark 1 up. Fox birdied the 15th and 16th after the United States pair had taken a one-hole lead; Morikawa missed a birdie putt on the 17th that would have squared the match.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Adam Scott won 3 and 2 against Justin Thomas and Cameron Young. Scott’s appearance was his 56th Presidents Cup match, breaking the record previously held by Phil Mickelson.
