Maryland held to 2-2 draw by 10-man UCLA
Dominic Ayella levelled in the 77th minute after UCLA’s Diego Martinez was sent off in the first half.
No. 4 Maryland drew 2-2 with UCLA after Dominic Ayella scored a late equaliser, but the Terps could not find a winner despite playing against 10 men from the 30th minute.
Rodrigo Neri put Maryland ahead in the fifth minute. Jaime Amaro equalised for UCLA in the 19th, before Diego Martinez was sent off after obstructing Neri.
UCLA regained the lead in the 54th minute when Victor Ciaurriz scored from a corner. Ayella levelled in the 77th minute after a sequence involving Said El Eyssami and Leon Koehl.
Maryland had recorded 22 shots by the 88th minute, but Neri’s late attempt went over the goal. Coach Sasho Cirovski said the team had not practised playing with a man advantage this season and assessed that Maryland “should have won”.
Maryland’s next reported fixture is against No. 2 Indiana in Bloomington next Friday.
