Hendrick Motorsports Secures Zilisch for No. 48 Following Bowman’s Retirement
NASCAR’s leading organisation confirms Connor Zilisch will assume the No. 48 Chevrolet, with Ally Financial retaining primary sponsorship.
Hendrick Motorsports has confirmed the signing of Connor Zilisch to a multi-year contract, securing the driver for the No. 48 Chevrolet following the conclusion of the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series season. The agreement marks a significant succession plan for the organisation as it prepares for the retirement of Alex Bowman, who has announced his departure from full-time competition after the 2026 season.
Zilisch, aged 20, will depart Trackhouse Racing, where his current contract expires after 2027, to join one of the sport’s most established teams. He initially signed with Trackhouse in January 2024 and spent the 2025 season competing in the O’Reilly Series for JR Motorsports, where he recorded 10 race victories. His transition to the Cup Series as a rookie has seen him currently sit 34th in the standings.
The leadership at Hendrick Motorsports has emphasised both the driver’s performance metrics and his personal conduct in finalising the deal. HMS owner Rick Hendrick stated in a news release that Zilisch’s talent is matched by his character, describing him as a gifted racer who represents the standard the organisation seeks to uphold.
"We have tremendous confidence in Connor, and we believe he’s the right driver to build on the legacy of the No. 48 Ally team for many years to come," Hendrick said. The owner noted that when a driver of such ability and character becomes available, the organisation prioritises bringing them into their fold to maintain competitive integrity.
Ally Financial will continue as the primary sponsor of the No. 48 car, ensuring continuity in the vehicle’s commercial partnerships during the transition. Zilisch expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting that driving for Hendrick Motorsports represents a long-held aspiration and a chance to carry forward the legacy associated with the team’s historic numbers.
The move positions Zilisch to compete alongside some of the sport’s most experienced personnel once he assumes the role post-2027.
