USA Forward Haji Wright Reportedly Ruled Out Up To 12 Weeks Due To Quad Injury
SPORT

United States men's national team forward Haji Wright is expected to be sidelined for up to 12 weeks following a serious quad injury, according to Coventry City manager Frank Lampard. The announcement was made ahead of the club's upcoming match against Arsenal, marking a significant setback for both the newly promoted side and the US national squad.

Lampard described the injury as "very serious," noting that Wright would not be available for a considerable period. "It's certainly going to be a number of weeks, could even be up to 12 weeks," Lampard stated, expressing disappointment for the player and the club.

The injury will delay Wright's Premier League debut, as he had helped Coventry City secure promotion last season by finishing at the top of the Championship. Wright was a key contributor to that campaign, scoring 17 league goals in over 2,500 minutes of play. To bolster their attacking options during Wright's absence, Coventry City signed forwards Taiwo Awoniyi and Sidiki Cherif during the summer transfer window.

The absence also impacts the United States men's national team during the upcoming international break. Wright is set to miss four international friendlies scheduled for September and October, including a match against Mexico. There is also uncertainty regarding his availability for Concacaf Nations League matches in November.

Under manager Mauricio Pochettino, Wright has appeared in the 2022 and 2026 World Cups, though he played limited minutes in 2026, coming on as a substitute against Australia and Belgium. Pochettino has other forwards available for the upcoming window, including Folarin Balogun, Ricardo Pepi, Brian White, and Julian Hall Zakrzewski, provided they remain healthy. Patrick Agyemang is also scheduled to return from injury during the winter.

The exact duration of Wright's recovery remains uncertain, with Lampard indicating the timeline could extend to the maximum 12-week period. This injury represents a significant disruption to both Coventry City's early Premier League season and the United States' international schedule.
