Guilford High extends unbeaten run with dominant 38-6 victory over Rockville

Guilford High School football has improved to 2-0 following a 38-6 victory over host Rockville on Friday, 18 September 2026. The match, reported by Yahoo Sports, saw the Grizzlies overcome a slow start to dominate the second half, scoring 29 points in the final two quarters.
The first half was largely devoid of scoring, with the first points of the game appearing with 1:30 remaining in the second quarter. A bad long snap on a Rockville punt attempt resulted in a safety, giving Guilford an early 2-0 lead. Shortly after, junior running back Shane Connelly scored on a one-yard run, extending Guilford’s advantage to 9-0 at halftime.
The offensive momentum shifted decisively in the second half. Sophomore quarterback Ryan Lynch connected with senior wide receiver Reed Hovick for a 25-yard touchdown pass, followed by a successful two-point conversion. This play, the only touchdown not scored by Connelly, extended the lead to 17-0.
Connelly, who was named player of the game, accounted for the remaining points with four rushing touchdowns. His scores included a 10-yard run, a 43-yard touchdown, and a 12-yard scamper. Connelly credited his offensive line for creating opportunities, noting that the linemen opened up significant running lanes.
Defensively, Guilford held Rockville scoreless until the final minutes. The unit recorded multiple fourth-down stops in its own territory, with sophomore linebacker Sam Edwards securing an interception in the first quarter and senior Jackson Hamm recovering a fumble in the fourth. Rockville’s only score came late in the game via an 11-yard touchdown pass from Luca Houle to Keith Schmidt.
Guilford coach Brian White acknowledged that his team took time to find its rhythm but praised the defensive effort. “I think defensively, we did a lot right. I think early on, we didn’t get off the bus. It kind of took us a little while to warm up,” White said. Guilford will host Xavier next Friday at 6:30 p.m., while Rockville will host Granby Memorial/Canton at 7 p.m.
