Outfielder Michael Harris II stated that the team has its eyes on bigger things, emphasising that the primary goal is to win the East. First-year manager Walt Weiss echoed this sentiment, noting that everything in the league is earned and that the group has overcome significant challenges this year.
Harris, Ronald Acuna Jr, and Matt Olson each hit two-run home runs to help the Braves bounce back after dropping two of three games to the Chicago Cubs earlier in the week. The victory gave the Braves 90 wins, marking the fifth time in the last eight full seasons that they have reached that milestone.
Atlanta is currently trying to hold off the Philadelphia Phillies for the NL East title. The Braves' win on Friday, coupled with Philadelphia's 6-3 loss to the Mets, gave the Braves a five-game lead over the Phillies with eight games remaining in the regular season. The team could wrap up the division crown as soon as Sunday.
Weiss, who is in his first season as manager after spending eight seasons as bench coach under Brian Snitker, attributed the success to an organisational effort. He noted that the players are the ones performing and that the team has a good staff, describing the group as a really good unit.
If the Braves take the division, it will be their seventh NL East championship in nine years. This return to the playoffs comes after a disappointing 2025 season in which the team went 76-86 and finished fourth in the division, snapping a streak of seven straight playoff appearances that included six consecutive NL East titles from 2018 to 2023.
