Formula 1 sets 24-round 2027 calendar with expanded Sprint programme
Bahrain will host the scheduled season-opener as Portugal and Turkey return, while the Dutch Grand Prix drops off the calendar.
Formula 1 has announced a 24-round calendar for 2027, with Sprint weekends increasing from six to 10. The schedule, reported by Sky Sports, is set to begin in Bahrain from 12 to 14 March.
Bahrain will also host pre-season testing from 24 to 27 February. The opening round and the following Saudi Arabian Grand Prix remain subject to uncertainty because of the continuing conflict in the Middle East.
Portugal’s Portimão and Turkey’s Istanbul Park will return to the championship. The Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort has been removed, while Barcelona will enter a rotation with Spa-Francorchamps from 2027.
Under the arrangement, Belgium is scheduled to host the event in odd-numbered years and Spain in even-numbered years from 2028. Australia is scheduled to be the third round and will host a Sprint weekend, alongside Japan, Canada, Britain, Italy, Brazil, Qatar, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain.
Monaco will host a Sprint weekend for the first time. Las Vegas is scheduled to stage the only Saturday race of the season, while the calendar remains at 24 rounds for a fourth consecutive year.
Formula 1 president Stefano Domenicali said the expanded Sprint programme would give fans more racing action. FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem described the calendar as reflecting the sport’s global reach and growth.
