Former Louisville quarterback Marty Lowe dies of cancer aged 54
Lowe, the first Louisville quarterback to play in the Governor’s Cup, played for the Cardinals from 1991 to 1995 before moving into coaching and football administration.
Former Louisville quarterback Marty Lowe has died from Stage 4 kidney cancer aged 54, Cardinals head coach Jeff Brohm confirmed on Tuesday.
Brohm said he had recently visited Lowe and offered condolences to his family. The Louisville Courier Journal reported that Lowe was two weeks short of his 55th birthday.
Lowe played for Louisville from 1991 to 1995 and became the first Cardinals quarterback to play in the Governor’s Cup, the rivalry game against Kentucky.
He later played two seasons in the Arena Football League before a knee injury ended his playing career. Lowe subsequently worked in coaching, broadcasting and football administration, including roles with Louisville and several Arena Football League teams.
