Elversberg bolster Bundesliga defence with Sirch signing
The 27-year-old defender arrives on a free transfer from Kaiserslautern, reinforcing a squad that has already secured high-profile wingers ahead of their historic top-flight debut.
SV Elversberg have confirmed the signing of defender Luca Sirch from Kaiserslautern on a free transfer. The 27-year-old has committed to a three-year contract, securing his position at the club until 2029. The acquisition marks a significant structural adjustment to the squad as Elversberg prepares for their first-ever promotion to the Bundesliga for the 2024/25 season.
Sirch completed his move on Tuesday, bringing with him recent experience in the 2. Bundesliga. Prior to the 2024/25 campaign, his career had been confined to the Regionalliga. However, he featured in 60 matches for Kaiserslautern under manager Torsten Lieberknecht, a period in which the side competed closely for promotion. Over the last two seasons, Sirch was directly involved in 13 goals, providing a statistical foundation for his transition to the top flight.
Elversberg’s sporting director, Christian Weber, emphasised the tactical rationale behind the signing. He highlighted Sirch’s versatility, dynamics, and strong right foot as critical assets that would increase flexibility within the squad. Weber noted that these attributes would enrich the team’s game, aligning with the club’s broader strategy to build a cohesive unit capable of sustaining performance in the Bundesliga.
Sirch, originally from Augsburg, cited the club’s internal culture as a primary factor in his decision. In his first interview with the club, he pointed to Elversberg’s cohesion, energy, and clear tactical identity as elements that impressed him during his observation of the team. He expressed a commitment to working collaboratively with his new teammates to achieve the club’s objectives.
The defensive reinforcement follows earlier acquisitions of wingers Maurice Krattenmacher from FC Bayern and Cole Campbell from Borussia Dortmund. The move also coincides with the departure of Carlo Sickinger, whose contract was mutually terminated. The defensive midfielder has joined 2. Bundesliga side Darmstadt, completing a reshuffle of Elversberg’s midfield and defensive options ahead of the new season.
