Cursor Launches Origin Git Forge in Early Beta
Cursor has introduced Origin, its proprietary git forge, allowing teams to host repositories, mirror GitHub projects, and manage access within the Cursor ecosystem.
Cursor has released Origin, a new git forge designed for storing and sharing code, in early beta. The platform enables users to create repositories, push and pull using git, mirror projects from GitHub, and browse code directly in the browser. The tool is positioned as a dedicated solution for teams seeking to centralise code management within the Cursor environment.
Origin is available exclusively on Pro, Teams, and Enterprise plans. It is not accessible on free plans, marking a shift in feature availability for the platform’s most basic tier. Access to the new forge is being rolled out in stages, meaning availability may vary depending on the user’s plan and current rollout status.
Teams must claim a codebase name before administrators can create repositories and manage access. This codebase name serves as the namespace under which repositories reside, forming the structure for URLs such as cursor.com/codebase/{owner}/{repo}. Once the name is claimed, admins can configure repository access and settings from the codebase settings page.
The platform mirrors functionality from existing workflows, allowing users to sync projects from GitHub. Repo icons indicate whether a repository is hosted natively on Origin or synced from GitHub, providing visual clarity on the source of the code. The tool also supports browsing, searching, and merging pull requests within the browser interface.
Privacy settings for repositories follow the Privacy Mode of the namespace owner, whether that is a team or an individual. Cursor has invited users to submit feedback to [email protected] to assist in refining the product as it moves through its early beta phase.
