The Los Angeles Chargers’ offence has come under early scrutiny after a 26–14 home defeat to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1, a result that exposed shortcomings in production and ball security.
The Chargers recorded 268 total yards, including 187 passing yards, averaged 3.9 yards per rushing play and committed two turnovers. Their 14 points matched the team’s fewest in a Week 1 game over the past 25 years, according to the report published by Yahoo Sports.
CBS Sports writer Zachary Pereles described the performance as evidence that the offence looked unprepared. The Chargers had entered the game as 9.5-point favourites but lost by 12 points.
Ladd McConkey was the only Chargers wide receiver to make a notable impact, while Tre Harris and Quentin Johnston combined for five catches and 37 yards.
The result represents one poor game rather than a full-season verdict, with Los Angeles having 16 regular-season games remaining to address the problems identified in Week 1.
