Carrick under pressure as Manchester United’s poor start continues
A late equaliser secured a point at Fulham, but United remain on five points from five matches and have matched their lowest total at this stage.
Manchester United’s 1–1 draw at Fulham has increased pressure on manager Michael Carrick, with the club recording one win and five points from its opening five Premier League matches.
Fulham took the lead through a Lisandro Martinez own goal before Matheus Cunha’s deflected 89th-minute equaliser prevented United from suffering a third consecutive defeat. The result leaves United 12th and level with their lowest points total after five matches in the Premier League era.
Carrick said United needed to improve but remained confident the team could recover. He pointed to the response after conceding and said the squad would learn from the difficult opening period.
Former United captain Gary Neville offered a harsher assessment on Sky Sports, describing the performance as “absolutely pathetic” and criticising what he saw as a lack of effort.
United’s start has included defeats to promoted Hull and Manchester City, as well as a League Cup match in which they surrendered a two-goal lead against Brighton. After a three-week international break, they are scheduled to face Tottenham on 10 October, followed by fixtures against Atlético Madrid and Leeds.
