Browns reshuffle secondary ahead of preseason opener
The team has signed former Saints cornerback Jeremiah McClendon while waiving Tyron Herring with an injury designation.
The Cleveland Browns have executed a pair of roster adjustments on Thursday morning, bringing in cornerback Jeremiah McClendon following his release from the New Orleans Saints. In a corresponding move, the club waived Tyron Herring with an injury designation.
McClendon, who went undrafted in April, spent time with the Saints before being waived in late May. He arrives in Cleveland with a collegiate record from Southern Illinois, where he recorded 59 tackles, two tackles for loss, two interceptions, a sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery last season.
Herring, who signed with the Browns in May, had previously spent time on the practice squads of the Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots in 2025. The exact nature of his injury was not specified in the announcement.
These roster changes come as the Browns prepare for their first preseason game of the year on Saturday. The moves reflect the team’s ongoing efforts to finalise their defensive backfield ahead of competitive action.
The signing of McClendon adds depth to the secondary, while the waiver of Herring opens a spot on the active roster. Both players will now be evaluated within the context of the upcoming preseason schedule.
