Brewers secure fourth straight NL Central title after Pirates win
Milwaukee’s 5–1 victory over Pittsburgh, followed by Chicago’s loss to Atlanta, confirmed the club’s fourth consecutive division championship.
The Milwaukee Brewers have won their fourth consecutive National League Central title after defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates 5–1.
The division was confirmed about 50 minutes after Milwaukee’s final out, when the second-placed Chicago Cubs lost to Atlanta. Brewers players watched the end of that game on television before celebrating the result.
Jacob Misiorowski struck out seven and allowed five singles across five shutout innings. Joey Ortiz and Luis Lara drove in two runs each for Milwaukee.
Fox Sports reported that Misiorowski improved to 15–5, with a major-league-best 1.89 earned-run average and 243 strikeouts. The Brewers have now qualified for the postseason for the eighth time in nine years.
Milwaukee is seeking its first World Series appearance since 1982. The club was swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers in last season’s National League Championship Series.
The Pirates fell to 75–76 and below .500. The series continues on Wednesday, with Logan Henderson scheduled to start for Milwaukee against Pittsburgh’s Jared Jones.
