Mahle pitched six innings, allowing one run on four hits while recording seven strikeouts. The lone run surrendered came from a Luis Torrens home run, but Mahle’s performance in his second start for Atlanta has stabilised the rotation. Offensively, the Braves capitalised on their new lineup configuration. Lane Thomas hit his first home run since being traded from Kansas City, providing the game’s initial run. The lead was extended in the seventh inning when Mike Yastrzemski and Austin Riley hit back-to-back home runs, contributing to a three-run rally that effectively sealed the contest.
Austin Riley finished the night 3 for 4 with two runs scored, while Ronald Acuña Jr. contributed two hits, one RBI, and two runs. Drake Baldwin added three singles and an RBI. The Mets’ rookie Zac Thornton pitched six innings in his eighth career start, allowing three runs. New York’s Luis Robert Jr. hit a home run in the seventh to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Atlanta’s bullpen, featuring a scoreless eighth from Dylan Lee and a ninth where Raisel Iglesias allowed a solo home run to Bo Bichette, maintained the margin.
Looking ahead, the Braves are set to open a three-game series against Arizona in Atlanta on Friday, with LHP Chris Sale (12-7, 2.20 ERA) scheduled to oppose RHP Brandon Pfaadt (6-1, 3.36). The Mets begin a six-game homestand against Washington on Friday, with RHP Robert Stock (0-2, 10.13 ERA) slated to start.
