Bemidji State began its men’s hockey season with a 3–2 overtime win over St. Cloud State at the Sanford Center, claiming its first victory over the Huskies since 28 October 2022.

Hudson Thornton scored the winner about 50 seconds into a 4-on-3 power play. Max Namestnikov made the pass after waiting for Thornton to find space in the high slot.

Namestnikov also scored Bemidji State’s opening goal, a little over four minutes into the season. He had five goals and 10 assists in 34 games last season.

Coach Tom Serratore said the team’s top 4-on-3 unit still needed work, describing its play as “very pedestrian”. He credited Namestnikov with making the decisive play.

Bemidji State was scheduled to continue with a home-and-home series against No. 4 North Dakota, beginning Friday at the Sanford Center. The source account also refers to a historic 4-on-4 sequence involving St. Cloud State goaltender Yan Shostak, but cuts off before explaining the achievement.
