Bears commence training camp with rookies and quarterbacks reporting to Halas Hall
Head coach Ben Johnson oversees initial phase of camp as Chicago integrates new talent ahead of veteran arrivals.
The Chicago Bears have officially commenced training camp at Halas Hall, marking the start of the team’s preparations for the upcoming National Football League season. The initial phase of camp, which began on Saturday, focused on the arrival of rookies, quarterbacks, and injured players, with all seven of the club’s draft picks now officially under contract.
Key arrivals to the facility included quarterbacks Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent, alongside first-round safety Dillon Thieneman. The Bears’ social media channels released images of the arriving players, highlighting the integration of new talent into the squad as the team moves into the summer training period.
Williams is viewed as a central figure in the club’s offensive strategy, having recently led his team to an 11-6 record, an NFC North title, and a playoff victory during a breakout sophomore campaign. He also set a franchise single-season passing record and led seven fourth-quarter comebacks, positioning him as a potential cornerstone for the Bears’ future.
Several rookies are expected to compete for significant roles under head coach Ben Johnson. Thieneman is anticipated to form a new safety duo with free-agent addition Coby Bryant, while tight end Sam Roush and third-round receiver Zavion Thomas are seen as new weapons for the offence.
Offensive line competition is also underway, with Logan Jones set to challenge veteran Garrett Bradbury for the starting centre position. Cornerback Malik Muhammad is poised to contest for a starting role, potentially opposite Jaylon Johnson or in the slot as Kyler Gordon deals with an injury.
Other rookies, including linebacker Keyshaun Elliott, defensive tackle Jordan van den Berg, and undrafted offensive lineman Caden Barnett, are competing for roster spots as they seek to establish themselves in the league.
Veterans are scheduled to report to Halas Hall on Tuesday, preceding the first closed practice session on Wednesday morning. The club’s social media accounts have shared glimpses of the team’s top rookies and quarterbacks as they arrive, signalling the start of a critical period for roster evaluation and development.
