Brady backs Mahomes and Chiefs as Super Bowl contenders

Tom Brady has backed Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs to remain in the Super Bowl contender conversation, despite ranking the team seventh in his latest NFL power rankings.

Speaking to Fox Sports, Brady said Mahomes was returning to his best form after tearing his ACL last December. He pointed to the quarterback’s leadership, discipline and tenacity during Kansas City’s 31–10 win over the Denver Broncos.

Mahomes completed 15 of 27 passes for 184 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also ran for a 15-yard touchdown as he returned from knee surgery.

Brady’s assessment followed a performance in which newcomer Kenneth Walker III carried much of the Chiefs’ ground attack. Walker rushed for a reported career-high 173 yards and scored a touchdown on his Kansas City debut.

Brady said Kansas City should not be counted out, arguing that a strong coach, quarterback and organisation built around championship standards can continue to produce results. His power rankings are based on recent performance rather than longer-term potential.
