Antonelli wins Spanish Grand Prix as Colapinto earns 9/10 rating
Kimi Antonelli extended his reported championship lead to 81 points, while Alpine’s Franco Colapinto finished seventh at Madrid’s Madring circuit.
Kimi Antonelli won the Spanish Grand Prix at Madrid’s new Madring circuit, finishing ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and McLaren’s Lando Norris.
The result reportedly extended the Mercedes driver’s advantage over team-mate George Russell to 81 points. Russell finished fifth, while Norris’s challenge was disrupted after a virtual safety car period altered the pit-stop sequence. A slow stop further damaged the McLaren driver’s prospects after he had started from pole and built a comfortable lead.
Verstappen secured second after briefly contesting the lead on the opening lap and keeping Norris behind him in the closing stages. Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton was among four retirements after an apparent brake failure ended his race.
Colapinto delivered one of Alpine’s strongest weekends of the season, according to BBC Radio 5 Live commentator Harry Benjamin. He reached Q3 while team-mate Pierre Gasly qualified 14th, then held off Oscar Piastri late in the race to finish seventh.
Benjamin rated Norris 9.5/10, with Antonelli, Verstappen and Colapinto each receiving 9/10. The assessments placed Colapinto among the weekend’s leading performers, although they remain subjective ratings rather than official measurements.
